Description

Suspended, captive, constrained, yet powerful and free – these are the photographs of Oliver Blohm. A Berlin-based photographer he has recently exhibited in Milan, London, Paris and New York. His works have sat alongside the likes of Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Ellen von Unwerth and Jack White, to name but a few. In “A Space Under Construction” his analogue photographs are to be shown in a comprehensive solo exhibition for the first time.

Looking back on his works of recent years, it’s clear they cannot be classified by one single genre. Fashion photography in which the garments merge hypnotically with the body combines with portrait photography showing as it were a gloomy soul, yet with the innermost beauty – still life from a bygone era.

Across some 50 works on display Oiver Blohm will pose answers to the burning questions of our time: What kind of relationship exists between humans and technical objects? What role does materiality play in the context of the artistic process and its aesthetic experience? Oliver Blohm recognises the camera as an extension of his own body – the perfect fusion between subject and object. The technical knowledge of the 8×10 camera and instant film (Impossible Project & Polaroid) merge into a visible artistic contrast to the virtual-digital age.

The exhibition is curated in collaboration with the artist, Alexander Masche and Beatrice Miersch. Sponsored by Canon and Ritter Butzke.
