Group Exhibition
»2 × 2« (Part I)
Justus Bräutigam. Paintings / Susanne Keichel. Photography
Justus Bräutigam (* 1984) focuses on the small format. He paints human faces or mountain landscapes with oil color on 50 x 40 cm-canvases. His portrait studies are shown in the exhibition. One may be reminded of a type of standardisation of the image details – head, neck and a section of the shoulder. Besides his apparently uniform subject, painting in itself is the topic of Bräutigams interest.
Susanne Keichel (* 1981) also works in series. In “Escape Lines” (since 2015) the photographer points out the human and individual dimensions of migration, the so-called “refugee crisis”. Refugee camps, demonstrations, house fronts, courtrooms and flags are seen only partially on the photographs. By the unconventional representation of actually trivial image themes, Keichel puts into question the objectivity of photography without renouncing the persuasive power of sober and factual documentary.
The second exhibition in the series »2 × 2« with paintings by Johannes Daniel and photography by Daniel Poller will be opening on Friday, April 20, 6 – 9 pm, and run until June 2, 2018.
