Description

…The viewer is invited to indulge his curiosity by letting his eye roam the shelves of this library and scrutinize what draws his interest. The overall dimensions of 260 by 134 cm (102 by 53 in) were chosen to bring out even minor details to full effect. Many – and remarkably different – things have come together in one moment in time on the four shelves. […] We can only guess: what emerges before our eyes is a meticulously arrayed autobiography. We are offered a glimpse of how an artist thinks and works…”
Prof. Dr. Steffen Siegel (extract, translation by Gerrit Jackson)

With „A Scene in a Library“ Jarmuschek+Partner shows an exhibition by the artist Edgar Leciejewski for the first time. Along with the presentation the same-titled artist book
(ISBN 978-3-941644-89-2) will be launched, which has been released by Berlin-based publisher The Green Box in September 2016.

Edgar Leciejewski (*1977) lives in Leipzig, where he has finished his studies of Fine Arts in the classes of Prof. Christopher Muller und Prof. Peter Piller at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst. His works have already been presented in numerous exhibitions worldwide, for example at Witte de With Center for Contempoary Art Rotterdam, at Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Kunsthalle Wien, Fogo Island Arts Canada and Museum der Bildenden Künste Leipzig.
Leciejewski explores the various social and scientific uses of photography. His work employs an experimental, analytic approach to the medium of photography by using various techniques and media. Besides content-related issues and the reflection of his own work, he is interested in issues such as the rhetoric of the photographic series, the photographic genre, the composition, and how as much time as possible can fit in a single photographic image. His pictures are repositories of time that allow for the slowing down of the act of seeing.

The conversation between Dr. Christiane Stahl (Alfred Ehrhardt Stiftung, Berlin) and the artist will take place in the gallery on Saturday, October 22 at 3 pm and will be open to the public.
